Council of Women's Clubs was founded in February 27, 1938 when Mary Newby, Madge Daugherty, and Lillian Gordon invited the presidents of the College Women's Club, The Women's Civic League, and The Stanford Women's Club, all of Pasadena to discuss the idea of forming a united women's club council. Although it grew to a strong 70 member club who is organized for diverse purposes, the Council's purpose from the beginning has been the same: to act as a clearing house for the activities of member organizations, to assist in any civic need or project approved by the Council, and to promote and recognize activities relating to women.
