Pasadena, CA - April 2008
The PIASC Print Excellence Awards is an annual regional competition. Winners at this level go on to compete in the Premier Print Awards for the highly coveted Benny statue.
In the Digital On Demand printing category the Mallarmé's Coup d´Etat booklet printed for Scripps College won over the judges with its simple single color design by Kitty Maryatt. The inside pages were on Starwhite Natural Text, combined with a Glama Natural Translucent insert, and emboss only Royal Metallic cover in Excalibur Steel color, all perfect bound in-house.
The second award was in the Presentation Folders/portfolio collection for our Northern and Southern California Travel Poster collections printed for the Book Club of California. Betty Adair designed these four-color process folders and

poster reproduction inserts, which were printed on Mohawk Superfine soft white Eggshell text, which were die-cut and finally assembled by hand.
The final award was for the annual Castle Press desktop calendar, which took top honors in the Printing/Graphic Arts Self Promotion category. Its beautiful photos by Denny Kruska, and unique design by Betty Adair combined for a stellar piece.
Stochastic printing
The calendar was the first Stochastically Screened job coming off our brand new Komori LS 40 Press. We printed this on our new house stock, Sterling Ultra Gloss Cover. The piece was finished off with a 24 Pt Carolina backer, and wire-o bound at Concord Bindery.
